Celebrating and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UCS work-in: sign up to come to the virtual meeting (28/1/21)

On the 50th anniversary of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders’ (UCS) work-in, the Jimmy Reid Foundation is holding this meeting to celebrate and commemorate one of the most successful campaigns of the post-war period. The work-in of 1971-1972 humbled the Heath Conservative government and represented a new industrial tactic without precedence. Jimmy Reid played a leading role in this. Professor John Foster, co-author of the seminal study on the work-in, will explain its success. He will be joined by UCS work-in veteran, James Cloughley, in doing so. Stella Rooney of UNITE Scotland Young Members and Morgan Horn, a UNITE Scotland organiser, will discuss what the work-in means to them as leaders of a younger generation of union activists.

Sign up at Eventbrite to attend the meeting at 7pm on Thurs 28 January here.
